A Jolly Jay

A Jolly Jay – last week the bird bath temporarily dried out, but as soon as I noticed I filled it up. Within half an hour a jay flew down and proceeded to have a very thorough wash accompanied by a squawk of appreciation. It then hopped onto the rim, preened and then immersed itself in the birdbath again with more squawking. I hadn’t been expecting a vote of thanks.

A bit of Timely Advice

Prune rambling roses after flowering, tie in the new growth and remove some of the old stems.

Trim lavender plants once the flowers have faded to keep them compact.

Cut raspberry canes to ground level after fruiting.

Keep topping up the bird bath in dry weather.
