Wigwams, obelisks, pergolas and arches add interest and beauty to the garden. Once again, it is important to take your surroundings into account – twiggy supports are lovely in a country garden, but wooden or metal structures may be more appropriate in an urban setting. It is not so much how they look when they are covered with climbers, but how they fit in during the rest of the year – twigs or beanpoles need to be taken down at the end of the season – metal or wooden plant supports can remain in place and provide architectural interest during the winter.
