I’ve been taking cuttings this week – rosemary, lavender, dianthus. The rosemary was a present from the Bannermans and is a direct descendent of a plant that Vita Sackville West collected wild on Corsica; less glamorously, the lavender is from a leggy plant next to the path that I want to replace and the dianthus cuttings are to increase my stock of these lovely plants. I’ve put the cuttings round the edge of pots filled with a 50/50 mix of potting compost and sharp sand, watered from below and then covered each pot with a mini greenhouse in the shape of a plastic bag. They are now in a light but shady spot on the greenhouse bench.
