  • A Winter Wander

15th January 2010Places to VisitStephanie Donaldson

Wrap up warm and visit the Winter Garden at Anglesey Abbey  in Cambridgeshire where a path winds its way for almost a quarter of a mile through spectacular colours created by groups of dogwood, willow  and silver bramble.  Scent and colour are provided by winter-flowering shrubs including viburnum, mahonia, sarcococca and chimonanthus with  further colour and interest provided by coloured tree barks, bulbs and ground cover plants.  It really is essential to dress as warmly as possible as the wind can be bitterly cold, but you can always warm up afterwards with bowl of soup in the café. www.nationaltrust.org.uk
