It’s not been a great year for pumpkins and squashes – anything close to ground level was munched to extinction by slugs well before it got bigger than a ping pong ball. A few did escape though because the vines were festooned over fences and the pumpkins were suspended out of harms way. Whether they will ripen properly remains to be seen, but we should get a couple of meals at least.

I am mourning my butternut squashes, not a single one was pollentated and we have no pumpkins either for Halloween… i do despise slugs and still haven’t found a good solution. I have stalked them, surprised them, lovingly left beer out for them, etc…
Yup, I’m with you on the slugs versus pumpkins. Mine were obliterated this year. Not one survived. it was very sad with no pumkin patch. We normally get at least 12 large ones which donate to the local church, school, friends and also leave some on the porch steps. Lets hope next year is better.
