Timely Advice for July

  • Dead-heading  flowering plants to keep them in flower
  • Liquid feed in the greenhouse, vegetable plot and flower garden
  • Prune sideshoots on gooseberries and redcurrants back to four leaves to encourage next year’s buds.
  • Sow parsley now for a winter crop
  • Harvest first-early potatoes

A Vine Thing.

One task that did get done despite the distractions was the pruning of the vines.  This needs to be done in January before the sap rises or the vines weep copious sap.  Done annually, it isn’t difficult, it’s only when the vine is left to its own devices that matters get out of hand.  We bundle up the trimmings and use them as kindling.
